Yesterday I had the pleasure of going to KDWB's #cakebythelake event at Wayzata's Brew Works with the lovely band DNCE. To preface I have been a huge DNCE fan since they released their hit single 'Cake by the Ocean' over a year ago. Having been a Jonas Brothers fan I naturally was biased on the bands success from the start. With the release of their EP Swaay, DNCE has become a household name in a short amount of time and has claimed the song of this summer. So when KDWB announced that there would be a cake fight with DNCE I knew I had to go. I had gone to a similar event from KDWB last Fourth of July Weekend with Demi Lovato and had a memorable time, so I was more than excited to hit the suburbs yesterday.

My best friend and I pre-cake fight in our rad KDWB sponsored ponchos
Being over the age of 21 and having little to no drinking experience with beer, I decided to take the opportunity of being at Brew Works to actually test some of their drinks. Fun fact: I'm more of a fruity drink kinda girl rather than potent and strong. I tried the Shamberry drink that they had and fell in love. It was a mix between a Mikes and Watermelon Margarita. Of course I had to have two so that the cake fight would be mildly more interesting in the midst of 12 year old's. The view at Brew Works isn't bad either. Located right on the lake Minnetonka, the brewery has both an outdoor seating option and indoor that overlook the lake in the middle of downtown Wayzata. Needless to say, it was a perfect day to relax and have a drink.

You're probably wondering where DNCE comes into the mix. The event started at 12 and ended at 2, so naturally the band came around 1:15-1:30 (which I'm assuming was because they wanted us to wait out and buy their products=successful marketing skills). DNCE came on for a cake eating contest and then was briefly present for an attempt at the World's Largest Cake Fight. I was given a huge piece of cake (which I intended to eat rather than throw) until a little boy grabbed a chunk of cake out of my hand. Naturally I chucked the rest at him and showed him a lesson or two. Needless to say the day was adventurous but I don't know if I'll be going back to another KDWB event like this. There's just too many little kids, lots of waiting, and just too much energy put into coming to an event where you see an artist for only 5 minutes. Yes, it was a free event but I could have pocketed the change I spent on drinks and transportation towards an actual concert ticket that might have been a bit better. Ya never know right?!?

    Until next time,

As some of you may know, I have been a vegetarian for about 5 years now. Having been someone who enjoyed a burger or two a week, transition to a life of burgers to black beans was a bit of a challenge; especially while going out. Unfortunately at most restaurants, vegetarians are limited when it comes to their burger options. Most are left with the only option of paying an over priced Morning Star Burger that was microwaved and put into a fancy bun while are friends across the table put there face into a Juicy Lucy. It just isn't fair. Fortunately I am here to help you realize what your options are restaurants in the Twin Cities. Here are some of the top places within the area to get vegetarian burgers.

    #1) Shish on Grand Avenue

Compared to most restaurants, Shish has a wide variety of vegetarian hamburgers (yes, there is more than one burger to get here that is meat free folks). When I first ate here I was in awe that I actually had three options for hamburgers. Never in my life had this happened to me as a vegetarian. Shish features three unique and different veggie burgers: Falafel, Garbanzo bean (which taste like Chipotle if you ask me), and a portabella mushroom burger. I'm a sucker for Falafel and go for it pretty much every time I'm here. Prices range from $8-15 depending on how you want to dress the burger up (ask about the garlic sauce for you fries).

    #2) Blue Door

Known for their juicy lucy's, The Blue Door is an unexpected place for vegetarians to go to. At first glance at the menu, there aren't too many options for veggies. Look again friends, look again. Unlike many restaurants, the Blue Door has create your own veggie burgers that can be styled in the same manner as one of there classic burgers. So if you are in the mood to try something adventurous, this is your place. Prices vary from $10-$17.

    #3) Hard Rock Cafe

Before you go hating on chain store restaurants please wait until after you have had this hamburger. The first time that I tried this veggie creation I was scared that I had ordered the wrong thing. It tasted too much like meat. The waiter insisted that it was indeed a veggie burger after I ate a bite of the burger and reassured me that I wouldn't get sick. They were right. This burger is too good to be true. With its packed veggies on the top and juicy texture you are sure to have a mouthful of flavors in every bite you take. This burger is so great that both vegetarians and carnivore have put this burger in such high demand, that sometimes the store is out of the burgers by 12 am. Prices range from $10-15

Is there a burger that you think should be on the list? Comment below!

As a vegetarian it can be difficult at times to find meals that are tasty and healthy at the same time. When it comes to cooking I gravitate towards the carbs rather than veggies. So when I heard that there was a noodle substitute I had to try it! I've tried other noodle substitutes before such as Edamame noodles (which are fabulous and can be purchased at Trader Joe's) and fell in love with the idea. Sure noodles aren't always the fastest things to cook, so when I saw that there were tofu noodles that were microwavable I jumped on it.

It was pretty simple to make- just microwave for two minutes and voila! you have a masterpiece. Just like your good old tofu that you buy in a block at the store, tofu noodles have the sponge like capabilities of soaking up every and any flavor. Being the egg fanatic that I am, I had to incorporate an egg into my meal (protein anyone) as well as some low calorie tomato sauce. Though I didn't fell completely full after the meal ( I ate the entire bag) the dish is very low in calories (a total of 10) which made me a happy camper.

    The final product
So okay, maybe the final product didn't turn out to be a TOTAL masterpiece but hey- at least I'm trying here people- and attempting to be healthy at the same time is a double whammy in my books :)

    Until next time,

This summers hottest band DNCE has been taken storm lately. The former Jobro and his new band mates (who aren't his brothers-GASP!) not only have a unique sound but style also. Their members- Joe, Jack, JinJoo, and Cole all have vibrant and at times androgynous styles that are breaking boundaries (along with their hits which are breaking the charts). From loud and vibrant Cole who can rock overalls like no other, to Joe Jonas with his European turtle neck vibe, to JinJoo who has a mix between rocker chic and school girl, to Jack who has a love for Hawaiian thirsts and hairbands. DNCE band is loud, unique, and most importantly authentic.

Below are just a few of their awesome looks. If you like the vibe that you see below also check out their latest EP 'Swaay' now on iTunes.

In case you were questioning if the  90s/ early 2000s revival is back in the fashion world, you can now solidify your answer to a 'yes' thanks to Juicy Couture. According to the Racked.com, America's favorite track suits are back for it's second debut. The sweatpants became a coveted item of wealth thanks to Juicy back in the early 2000's thanks to our favorite celebrities Lindsay Lohan, the Kardashians, and Paris Hilton. They were a symbol of wealth for woman in America while also creating the revolution of athletic wear.

Flash forward to 2016 were almost every celebrity from Kate Hudson to Carrie Underwood have their own athletic line. What was once seen as a fashion faux-pas of wearing your exercise clothes outside of the gym has become a new demographic of shoppers; and we have Juicy to thank for this.
With gym memberships increasing in America yearly, businesses such as Old Navy, H&M, and Forever 21 branched into new territories allowing for the creating of stores such as Atheltica and Lululemon to be as successful as they are today.

So why bring back the old tracksuit?  According to Fashion Director of ready-to wear of Bloomingdales, Brook Jaffe, Juicy's infamous velvet is the antidote to "elevating casual sportswear" Jaffe said to WWD. The question of if the infamous track suits will regain its popularity is still in question to consumers, but for big chain retailer  Bloomingdale's there is no doubt that the tracksuit will succeed."Juicy was the originator of the ath-leisure, a trend that resonates with our customers and has a strong presence in our fall 2016 assortment" Jaffe added. The line is expected to debut at retail stores this July and can now be seen on social media with the hashtag #trackisback.

Will you be purchasing a Juicy Couture tracksuit?

As many of you guys know, I will be moving soon to France with TAPIF . One of the exciting new changes (in addition to moving to a different country) is crossing some things off of my big girl bucket list. One of them includes getting my first place and decorating it! You might remember from my other DIY inspired posts  that I have a slight obsession with decorating my room. So the idea of decorating an apartment by myself can seem a bit daunting and exciting at the same time. Fortunately my friends from Chairish Collections are here to help me create some inspiration! One of my must lists for my new place is to have a 'woman' cave- a place where my friends and family can hang out and have light drinks and snacks. There's many ways that you can style and furnish a room. For myself, I find it helpful to furnish around a centerpiece or piece of furniture. Below are just a few examples of how I styled some of Chairish Collections amazing bar stools. Whether you want to be sweet and classic or modern this company has the bar stool for you to create the best room possible. So get ready to be inspired- because it's time to start decorating!

    1. Room #1
Custom Nautical Teak Bar Stools- Set of 3
For this room I wanted to use the wood features from the top of the bar stool and metallic structure of the bar stool to create a modern and rustic feeling in the room. This is a great room to hang out with friends and have a drink. With shelves the room becomes more spacious so that you can add extra chairs around the table and create a fun time for all. Cheers!

    2. Room #2
    Mid-Century Hairpin Stools- Pair

For this room I wanted to emphasize the classic feeling that the chairs give while giving off a modern edge. By having black and white photos with an emphasis in pink you get a simple put sweet look in the room. This room is a great place to have macaroons and some pink champagne with your girlfriends. With the chairs having a modern back rather than a sweetheart look, the room maintains a romantic edge while staying sleek and modern.

    3. Room #3
Phyllis Morris Silver Bamboo Bar stools-Pair

In this room I wanted to showcase how modern yet comfortable these Bamboo styled chairs are. By keeping with the silver and blue hues throughout the room, the chairs become a staple within the room rather than just another collection of objects. This room is great for a larger group of chic girlfriends to have an awesome night in.

What's your favorite style of chair and room? Comment below and let me know! For more information on my friends Chairish Collections  please visit their website at https://www.chairish.com !

In the back of my mind I have secretly always wanted to be a housewife for 24 hours. Somehow I would magically learn how to cook an excellent yet healthy meal, it would turn into a masterpiece, the kitchen would sparkle because I wouldn't have made a mess, and I wouldn't look disheveled whatsoever. Well that day hasn't come yet....

I decided that I wanted to try and make a cake that was moderately healthy, and what better way to do so than look at magazines that boast about being healthy? So I skimmed through the articles of Healthy Living and Shape while watching the Duggars to get my inner housewife on (because how else are you going to really go full on with the stereotype?) and prayed that the cake wouldn't turn out to be terrible.

The recipe for the Lemon Cake from Healthy Living
You're probably wondering how healthy and pound cake can be in the same sentence. I asked myself the same question too as I was preparing the dish. Instead of requiring a pound of each ingredient (which is how the infamous cake got its name from) the recipe requires you to add Greek yogurt into the cake instead of milk. Cool right? Though the cake was a tad more moist with yogurt it did leave the cake with a bitter taste and almost more of a consistency of bread rather than cake.Sugar was replaced with agave and lemon zest was minimal. If I'm going to eat cake, I want it to look like cake dammit- and taste similar to it as well. Having more of a cornbread like structure and taste, the cake wasn't even worthy of snapping pictures of. Sure, it helped minimize my sugar cravings but I think next time I'll stick to popcorn or buying pre-made Weight Watchers bars.

    Until next time,

I have always been a huge fan of Khloe Kardashian. She's authentic, unapologetic, and transparent. She's not only refreshing to see from Hollywood but a role model for many woman around the world, including myself. She isn't afraid to admit her mistakes- both personal and professional ones- which is rare for a person to do in the public eye at a drop of a hat. In the most recent issue of Harper's Bizare the Kardashian opened up even further and showed a side that many of us fans have never seen. With little make-up and glitz, Khloe can be seen raw for the world to look. at. It's something that we shouldn't take lightly. In this photo shoot Khloe goes against many beauty norms and standards including the stereotypes that can at times be portrayed by her and her sisters. Below are just a few photos from the photo shoot that inspired me to select her as this week's Fashion Friday idol. Remember that you too should embrace everything that you have- the good, the bad, and the ugly. We are all unique and deserve to feel comfortable and confident no matter what place we are in life.

Last Friday I bought Nick Jonas's new album- Last Year Was Complicated- at Target. Being the mega fan that I am, I was patiently waiting for the album to be released. At midnight on the dot I listened to the songs on Spotify and by 8 am the next morning had pretty much every song memorized. Fortunately Target made it even harder to choose a favorite song from the new R&B album with their extra three tracks on the album.Included in the album is Nick's current top singles 'Close', 'Bacon', and 'Unhinged'; all of which have catchy tunes and explain more about Nick's transition back to single-hood after his break up with Miss Universe.

Even if you might not have been a Jonas fan before, I assure you that this album is worthy enough to be purchased. You can tell that this album has been curated to its finest (if you don't believe me check out his documentary on TIDAL about making the album). Nick is at a point where he literally can try anything and everything with music- and he goes out of his comfort zone in this album and speaks truly from the heart- with the help of a few other friends in the album.

You can now purchase Last Year was Complicated in stores or online for $15.

During difficult periods of time, such as the one that we are currently going through in America, it can be hard to see the future in a positive light. Personal and communal goals all of a sudden seem unobtainable and hard to reach. Everyone deserves for their goals to be reached (providing that they do not harm others). So how do you go about reaching your goals and attempting to fulfill all of them? As someone who has been fortunate to fulfill many goals in my life span of 22 years, I have had the ability to see my goals, which where once on a piece of paper, become a reality. This process didn't happen over night though and it didn't happen by itself either. I am not an expert by any means, and still have dreams that I hope to complete- but I do believe that this process has helped me become the person that I am today. Here are just a few tips on how you can fulfill your goals- no matter what the size your dreams might be.

    1. Write them down: Whether you write your goals down on a piece of paper, on a word document, or in your notes section of your iphone have a place that you can look back and evaluate your goals every so often. You might have remembered a couple of summers ago I did this as a special blog feature- attempting to complete goals of different sizes. By writing these down you are not only making these plans more concrete- but you are making a promise to yourself that you are going to try and make those dreams happen.
    2. Put a time limit on goals: Create a deadline of when you would like to see your goals completed. Create a mix of time frames so that you don't feel rushed to complete every single goal AT THE SAME EXACT TIME. Trust me, it's stressful and takes away the joy of completing a well deserved task.
    3. Have goals of different sizes: It can be intimidating looking at a list with what can be perceived as unobtainable dreams. In order to downsize these larger dreams to make them appear doable, create goals of different sizes that you know that you can complete.
    4. Create communal goals: Having your own personal goals is awesome, but creating goals for a community can be even more rewarding. This can include going to the gym once a week with your friends, creating policy changes with a social justice group, or creating a garden with your local community. Goals shouldn't serve just yourself personally- they should benefit all community members as well.
    5. Know that you can do it: You are your biggest enemy at times. Fight for what you believe is right and what you deserve. It may take longer than you expected, but know that with time things will come.
    6. Be humble when necessary and celebrated when needed: Don't automatically assume that you will get all of your dreams accomplished in a heartbeat. Even if you do--be humble about it and grateful for the opportunities that have been given to you. Celebrate your goals and then move forward with your life towards bigger and better opportunities.
    7. Look up to others: This summer I will be looking up to athletes such as those lucky enough to compete in the 2016 Olympics in Rio and Paralympic Games. Hearing and seeing each athletes strength, determination, and ferocity reminds me that I too can reach and accomplish my dreams if I put effort and time into it. Anything is truly possible when you believe in yourself and try.

No matter what your goals are this summer remember that YOU have the capability to do anything. Reach for your dreams and beyond. This summer, my goal is to remind myself that I am capable of being strong both physically and mentality and using that strength in my community. What are your goals this summer and forward? Use the hashtag #StandforProgress and comment below!

    Until next time,
