How I thought graduation would be: Fabulous, with a job offer, and hot-geeky boyfriend. Picture from Legally Blonde (MGM).
I've always considered myself to be a planner. Since elementary school, I have lived with my agenda by my side and knew what schools I would attend after 6 grade (yes I had planned out what junior high, high school, and even college I wanted to attend early on). Sure my parents and teachers influence played a large decision on what I wanted to do, but the paths I chose to take were because I was passionate about them also.
For many high school students, college is seen as an escape route. It's the time where you can finally live independently away from your parents. Suddenly no one is there to tell you what to eat, if you should go to your 8 am class, or do your laundry. Though these were very tempting reasons to move out of my house and apply for out of state schools, I decided early on that I would live at home and commute to college. Yes, I was one of those commuter students that at times was considered an outcast during my freshman year. You might be asking why I chose to go this route instead of doing your stereotypical college rituals such as joining a sorority or getting a fake ID to go to the local college bar.
Motivation: Sometimes it's the little things. Image from Whoelsebutkels.com
Living in the Twin Cities allowed me to choose from a wide variety of institutions. On my street alone there are three college and one law school along with three other institutions that are less than 3 miles away. With a major already in mind, choosing a college was fairly easy because not every institution had it (French-mes amies). I found selecting a college similar to shopping- I had created myself a list of items I wanted for a certain price. I knew that I couldn't afford to go to a place like Saks or Nordstrom, but didn't want to get something cheap either from a megastore like Forever 21. I wanted an education that allowed me, frankly, to get my moneys worth.
Since I knew what my majors were right off the bat and had taken IB classes I was considered a sophomore on my first day of college (another path that my parents had encouraged me to follow when I was in high school).  I created a three year plan so that I could graduate early while still fulfilling all my credits. I followed what my advisers said, financial advisers, and parents so that I wouldn't be in debt after college. I applied for scholarship after scholarship and kept up my grades so that I could graduate with Cum Laude Honors (something that I hadn't been able to do in high school- only honors then). I studied abroad, completed four internships during college, started an organization, and worked full time with over 20 credits each semester.

So how did I end up, after three months post graduation still without a job?

In the meantime I've been taking pictures in the series called 'The Waiting Game' which can be found on my photo blog

This was never a part of my plans. I chose to graduate early not only so that I could save money, but to also be ahead of my peers who were graduating in May and snag a coveted job afterwards. I've had interview after interview and email after email with little to no explanation why I wasn't offered the job. I've become addicted to watching my email and staring at my phone- hoping that someone will call and say that I've received an offer. And still....nothing

Now I should mention that I realize that I'm not the only one in this situation. There are many other college graduates that are in the same situation as I did. I realized that I majored in something that I was passionate about and that might not be lucrative (French) but to off balance that I chose to major as well in Communication and a Certificate in International Journalism. I know that others aren't lucky enough to have parents or the means to start off fresh after college or even receive the opportunity. I want to remind others though that they are not the only ones in this predicament. Sometimes you can't be sure if the path that you are taking is the correct one- or if it will even go anywhere. It can be...well kinda depressing at times. Sure it's great that I can hang out with my puppy and my retired father, but I'd rather be using my time and energy that I (and my parents) put into college and APPLY it. For now, I'll just have to wait and see what happens and remain as optimistic as I can.
Phrases like these keep me grounded during this trivial time :). Photo from etsy.com

For many of us young people, finding a good yet cheap drink at the bar can be a challenge. With happy hour usually being 4-6 pm (and sometimes even early starting at 2pm) you need to have planned going out to happy hour far in advance with your friends to save a good amount of cash. Fortunately, I have done my research on finding bars and restaurants that not only have cheap drinks during reasonable hours, but that also can get leave you pretty buzzed.

#1) Salut Bar Americain, 917 Grand Avenue St Paul MN

Happy Hour Daily 3-6pm and 10pm-Close Friday & Saturday Night

Picture from Salut Bar Americain Grand Ave Location, From website

This is one of the few places that has a happy hour in the Cities on the weekend. A glass of wine will vary during happy hour from $4 -$5. Grab some oysters for an extra $2 or truffle fries for $6 and you'll be set. Don't forget that you get served some awesome bred with garlic butter that makes Olive Garden's bread-sticks taste like something from McDonald.

    Full Happy Hour Menu: http://www.salutbaramericain.com/menu/pdfs/stpaul_happyhour.pdf

#2) Pretty much any bar at Mall of America

    Happy hour 3-7pm, various locations
    Picture from Tripadvisor.com
If you're really up for some fun then I highly advise you to go to Mall of America and barhop during Happy Hour from 3-7pm. Remember that there's over 50 restaurants at Mall of America, so that really gives you endless possibilities to try different drinks throughout the Mall. My favorite deals at Mall of America include Tucci Benucch ($3.99-$5.99 menu), Crave (ranging form $4-$5 drinks, with over 20 options), Cadillac Ranch (one of my favorites, $3 pint), and Hard Rock Cafe which has $3 Mimosas on Sundays. Remember too friends that Mall of America is connected to the light rail, so you won't have to fight over who's going to be the DD for the night.

Check out more deals here! https://www.mallofamerica.com/dining/happy-hours-specials

#3) The Pourhouse- Free drinks for college students

Free drinks on Thursdays and Sunday with ID 10-12pm, Warehouse District Minneapolis
You're college ID is finally going to good use. Check out the Pourhouse on Thursdays or Sundays for some free drinks from 10pm-Midnight. Remember though to RSVP on the website before 9pm and you won't have to pay for a entry fee (which can go towards your $5 uber ride home). Thought the drinks aren't magnificent they are free and that's fine by me. This venue has a lot of different events that can involve one free drink or theme nights so make sure that you're informed before you hit the town!

#4) Wild Onion- Facebook never looked so good before, 788 Grand Ave St Paul

    #7) O'Garas- 164 N Snelling, St Paul MN

Happy Hour: Monday - Friday 3-6 pm, Sunday - Thursday 10 pm - midnight
You might feel like this after a couple drinks from O'Garas, painting by Michael Birawer

What I love about going here is how chill this place is. A generally quiet bar, this is a great place to have a conversation while having a great drink. Even when it isn't happy hour the drinks here are priced well ($5 a class of house wine isn't bad now is it?). My favorite- come in on Mondays from 4-10 pm and get 1/2 a bottle of wine.

#8) Kitty Cat Klub, 315 14th Ave SE, Minneapolis, MN 55414

    Cheap drinks throughout the night

    Photo form Star Tribune

Located on the U of M's Dinky Town, this bar is a great hideaway after a stressful week of exams. The majority of the drinks here are all under $8 (a glass of wine is $4) and there is usually a live band playing. Just make sure and check if there is a cover charge before you enter in. I'm all about supporting local artists. Just only the ones that I like. The bar has a large seating area and has a pool table along with some arcade games to answer. This is a great spot to go while bar hopping around the U of M.

    #9) Sally's Bar & Grill, 712 Washington Ave SE, Minneapolis, MN 55414

Daily Happy Hour everyday 3-6pm and 10pm-Midnight, $2 Rail Drinks and Domestic Beer
    Photo form Tripadvisor.com
If you're ready for a deal then this is the place for you. As a vegetarian it can be a bit hard to find something on the menu other than donuts to eat (and for cheap compared to our meat-eating friends who can have a $3 burger). That being said, the location of the bar as well as the fact that there are $2 drinks does improve the situation. If you're into scavenging for cheap meaty food this is also the place for you. Each day the bar has a different special- from $2 Ramen on Tuesdays to 2lbs of wings for $5. Warning though: There is usually a large crowd here, so get ready to make some friends, especially on game day.

#10) Brothers Bar and Grill- 430 1st Avenue NorthMinneapolis, MN 55401

    Too many deals to count

    From Goldstar.com
You are almost guaranteed to find a good deal at Brothers whether you come at 2pm in the afternoon or 11pm. Though the drinks at times that are discounted can be rather-well harsh- they do make the nigh a fun time. Just remember to drink water friends. If you're really into getting the most out of your money and love a particular drink- check out what daily specials your location has in order to profit most.

A staple of my wardrobe are blazers. For many of my girlfriends they seem very perplexed by the notion of wearing blazers. So I'm hear friends to help change your notion of blazers. Blazers aren't just for going to work and looking frigid. Blazers are there to help you look cool, collective, and even bad ass.

Here are a few ways that you can rock wearing a blazer from some of my favorite stars

    (1) Metallic Blazers

Love the look of blazers but don't know how to wear them out at night? Metallic Blazers are a great way to look bad ass. Pair with some leather boots, blank pants, and a graphic tee and you have yourself one great look!
    Blair, Gossip Girl

Kourtney Kardashian wearing a matching metallic blazer and shorts

Demi Lovato in a Saint Laurent Blazer

    (2) Boyfriend Blazer

A lot of people of people have the notion that blazers are uncomfortable then you clearly haven't worn boyfriend blazers before. Not only are the comfy, but they make wearing sweatpants somehow chic.
    Kendall Jenner- My point exactly

    (3) Matching Blazer and Shorts

Sometimes matching your bottoms and tops can actually be a good thing. This is a great transition look from winter to spring and honestly looks hella fabulous. If you're bold matching printed pants and blazer are a great option or if you're wanting to play the game a bit more mild you can try wearing matching solid colors.

    (4) Statement Blazers

Sometimes your blazer can be a statement piece. After all, they are great pieces that deserve to be showcased. With some black leggings and a black tank you a set to look fabulous without much effort.

It would be an understatement if I didn't say that I was mildly obsessed with Paris. When I learned in the Fall of 2014 that I would be moving to the city of lights for a semester the first thing that I did was look up the prices for season passes at Disneyland. Yes, I'm one of those people that are obsessed with the mouse, the princesses, and lots and lots of rides. Having had a annual pass for 2015 here are a few tips about going to Disneyland Paris so that you can have the best time while frolicking with Pirates and Star War Characters.

     (1) Annual Pass
       * If you are a student buying an annual pass is the best option for you. Typically a one day pass to both parks in 99 euros, while a pass for the ENTIRE YEAR as a student is only 100 dollars. That means friends that you are literally only using paying for one extra euro to visit the park virtually whenever you want.

One of the many perks: seeing Disney change throughout the seasons
    (2) The weekends aren't that bad
       * If you're like me and love to save money than the weekends might actually not be that bad. If you have a PassNavigo that means that the RER to Marne de la Valley is FREE friends. This is true for holidays as well, but double check on the back of your pass to see if you're allowed to enter the gates to the happiest place on earth before you venture 45 minutes away from the city. This means after one visit you are visiting the happiest place on earth virtually FOR FREE. That's a big deal mes amies. I recommend going on Fridays or Sundays if you don't want to go to a super crammed park on the
    weekend.
    Swing into Spring

    (3) Get the app
       * Disneyland Paris has a great app that shows what the wait times are for rides, park hours for the day, and even the menu for all the restaurants. This is helpful if you're like me and have the mindset to try and cram every single ride as much as possible. This will allow for you to prioritize what rides to go on first and which ones you should get fast passes for (yes this Disney Park has fast passes!).

    (4) You don't have to go super early in the morning
    * The first time I went to the park I had the mindset that it would be exactly like the American park. You come at the crack of dawn and stay till you get kicked out because the park closes down. Take your time getting to the park. Yes there are busy hours and seasons at the park, but generally compared to the American parks it's not super crammed and you can get the majority of rides done (at both parks) in about 4 hours.

    (5) Bring your own food
      * Though it might be tempting to try French food at the happiest place on earth don't be deceived. It's straight up all american crappy food. Though there are some ok options to eat at the park the majority (if you're on a budget) include fried food with a side of apple pie. I'll stick with a croissant and fruit thank you. Also if you're worried about having someone 'catch' you with food at the security check point that is not a problem mes amies! My typical 'go-to' bag to the park was my backpack with a water bottle, sandwich, and apple sauce.

It's a Small World seems more sentimental abroad

    (6) Wear your own Mikey Inspired wear
      * Fortunately since I had the intentions of going to Disney I brought my Disney wear along with me ( thanks H&M and Epcot Parks). If you think the price of Disney food is bad then you want to stay clear of stores. Wear your own Disney wear if you're a big fan like me and would feel like a fool if you didn't have some form of ear pattern on your t-shirt.

Are you going to the park in Paris soon? Let me know if you have any questions below!

    Until next time,

I admit, I've always been obsessed with make-up. I remember the first time I tried lipstick. I was far too young to even know how to put it on but loved the idea of having purple lips to go with my floral dress in Kindergarten. In junior high, I remember trying eye shadow for the first time and attempting to hide it from my father on the walk to the bus stop. Needless to say the dark green color was pretty obvious to my dad, regardless of my will power not to blink. Now, as a 22 year old I have sure had my ups and downs when it comes to make up. I have tried the canisters, the powders, and the liquid foundations. Up until a couple weeks ago I was at my wits ends with makeup. Maybe it just wasn't meant to be. Then - as if it was magic- my mother decided to have me test out Bareminerals while at the mall in January. To say that I was hesitant was an understatement. I had used Bareminerals when I was in Junior High, and didn't seem to have any fond memories of the brand and its products. An hour later and $100 out of my pocket I came home a new woman. The acne that was once on my face almost magically disappeared with a whip of a the makeup brush and my sass had someone re-emerged.
I'm just so happy with this kit you guys
I have to say, if it wasn't for my mother I wouldn't have gotten the kit. Priced at $79, I was hesitant that the product that the makeup artist had done at the mall would create the same effect by myself at home. I'm proud to say that I was wrong.  The Kit, which was personally crafted for myself included the following products:

      - 1 bareSkin Foundation SPF 20, Original Foundation SPF 15 (size: large),
      - Foundation SPF 20
      - 1 Concealer
      - 1 Face Brush
      - 1 Mini Prime Time Foundation Primer, 1 Mineral veil finishing powder, 1 Flawless Application Face Brush, and 1 Maximum Coverage Concealer Brush

Captured: me putting on concealer after the primer and foundation

In addition to these products, I also bought the Red Clay Mask and another primer that corrected the redness in my face. Though it might seem like there are a lot of products that need to be used every day, it's actually not that difficult and the effects are longer lasting than any other makeup I've had. Somehow Bareminerals has broken my notion that with makeup, I have to coat layer after layer to receive full coverage. I guess the saying "less is more' would be their motto statement, because even after a month it feels like I've barely used any product. For Bareminerals, almost every product only needs to have a pea-size amount. Of course my full coverage self was scared. I didn't want anyone to see my imperfections. How could a pea size of makeup foundation really be enough? Well, somehow it has proven to be more than enough, and now the motto of 'less is more' has become one of my mantras in life. Because after all- who doesn't love to stay flawless?

Me with the Flawless Application Brush with Foundation inside of it- there is a pea size whole that helps so that you don't overuse product!

There honestly isn't much though to complain about the kit. Yes, it is a tad expensive (being that right now I am tight no money) but I went in with the notion that I was going to be spending more money than usual on makeup. After all, I have literally tried about every different makeup brand from Sephora to Chanel when it comes to foundations, so my wallet has had fluctuating impact along with my face. It helps also that this makeup is combating my acne along with my medicine that I'm already taking. I'm all for killing two birds with one stone. So why not look flawless while doing it too? This kit truly allows you to experiment while allowing for a natural look. Along with the kit came bronzer for contouring (which I haven't mastered yet), but I'm excited for the possibility of having a tan face come spring time. My only feedback would be is that the kit should have blush included in the kit. After all, everyone loves to have some color on their face - so why not add some pink onto it as well? In all the kit had everything I pretty much wanted and more- it had the products that I was looking for that gave me full coverage, some new brushes, and even some fun extra things to play with. Oh and did I mention that mine came with a makeup bag?

Final look showing the maximum coverage brush

Every so often you need to celebrate life. Whether that means sitting down and setting up time for yourself and eating some dark chocolate while watching Sex and the City, reading a book, or traveling. At the end of 2015 I had a lot to celebrate. I graduated early from college (with a double major and a certificate), had accomplished my dream of living in Paris, and had gained some valuable work experience as well with an internship in the summer and the fall.  It had become a tradition for my family and I to celebrate momentous occasions such as these as well as the holidays (which happen to fall in the same time frame) and go on a cruise. So the daunting question comes when thinking about celebrating these momentous occasions: what am I going to wear?

I'm one of those people that over plans things. So of course I had a set idea of what I was looking for when it came to celebrating my birthday on the cruise. I wanted something that was sophisticated, fun, and that sparkles. That doesn't sound too hard right? Boy was I wrong. If you know my personal style I am obsessed with wearing all black. After having lived in Paris a pop of color really isn't my thing- AT ALL .So finding something that was sparkly and black proved to be a challenge. Fortunately I live close to the largest mall in America. Like most of my purchases, I found this dress at the last second. I had another dress in my hand ready to purchase in line and then suddenly, as if it was fate, I saw out of the corner of my eye a sparkling beauty. It was a Alberto Makali dress in my size and even in my price range (well I made it- because a girl has got to look good when she's celebrating right?). With some new Nine West heels that I also got at Nordstrom Rack I perfected my sophisticated but fun look that had lots and lots of sparkle. It just goes to show you that sometimes it can truly be a match made in heaven when you find the right dress.
